Repsol Norge AS has, as operator of the Yme field and on behalf of the Yme license, entered into an agreement to take over the day-to-day operations of the jack-up rig Mærsk Inspirer from Maersk Drilling (MD).  According to the agreement, MD will sell Mærsk Inspirer to Havila Sirius AS and the Yme licensees will lease the rig from Havila Sirius AS under a bareboat charter. The transaction is subject to certain conditions being satisfied, including relevant authorities’ approval.

This agreement demonstrates the importance of the Yme New Development as a key project in Repsol’s global focused E&P portfolio and supports our strategy in Norway. RNAS has long and extensive experience as operator on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and operating a production facility in a safe and efficient manner is a core competence within our E&P business.

“Taking over the responsibility of day-to-day operations of Mærsk Inspirer enables extractions of further contractual and operational synergies on behalf of the Yme license” says Vidar Nedrebø, Managing Director in Repsol Norge AS.

He continues: “We are looking forward to continue our good collaboration with MD during the transition phase to achieve a successful handover and to welcome a new working relationship with our new colleagues and Havila Sirius AS.” Employees in scope will be transferred to Repsol Norge AS in accordance with the Norwegian Working Environment Act.

Havila Sirius is a 100% owned subsidiary of Havila Holding, a family-owned investment company with long-term industrial ownership within OSV, ship-technology, ferry-operations, tourism and real estate.

Per Sævik, Managing Director in Havila Sirius AS says: “We are looking forward to a long and good collaboration with Repsol and the other licensees on Yme.”

Facts about Yme New Development Project & the Mærsk Inspirer

Repsol Norge is the operator of the Yme field and the Yme New Development Project with a 55% working interest. Partners in the Yme licence are Lotos Exploration and Production Norge AS (20% working interest), KUFPEC Norway ASA (10% working interest) and OKEA ASA (15% working interest). The Yme field was discovered in 1987 located in Block 9/2 and 9/5 in the Egersund Basin, approximately 100 km from the Norwegian coastline.

The Yme New Development Project consists of the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a new wellhead module on top of existing facilities at the Yme field, the modifications and upgrading of the Maersk Inspirer Mobile Offshore Drilling and Production Unit prior to installation in the field and subsequent hook-up to existing wells in and installations on the seabed offshore.

The Mærsk Inspirer was delivered in 2004, and following an initial drilling campaign in UK, the rig was converted to a Mobile Offshore Drilling & Production Unit to provide simultaneous drilling and production service on the Volve field offshore Norway for Equinor in the period from 2007 to 2017. From late autumn 2018 until 29th of December 2020 the Mærsk Inspirer was at the Aker Solution’s yard in Egersund for upgrading and modifications work at the yard. Mærsk Inspirer was successfully installed at the Yme field in the Southern North Sea on the 31st of December 2020.
